My Athens Transfers, 1–2 people

Eight private Athens airport transfers compared on what a car really costs for one, two, four or seven people, against the fixed-fare taxi, the metro and the X95 bus, so you only pay for a transfer when it is worth it.

What You Should Know

  • A private Athens airport transfer is a pre-booked car whose driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign; the drive to central Athens takes 35 to 60 minutes.
  • Book the fare that matches your landing time: night rates start at 22:30, 23:00 or midnight and end between 04:30 and 06:00 depending on the operator; the taxi fixed fare is €65 from midnight to 05:00.
  • Couples pay €58 to €78 per car by day against €50 for the fixed-fare taxi; groups of four to six pay €104 to €138 for one car, about what two taxis cost.
  • Many private transfers arrive in a licensed yellow taxi, and drivers often walk you out to a pickup point; the premium buys a guaranteed, prepaid pickup rather than a different kind of car.

Athens Airport Transfers: Private Car, Taxi or Metro?

An Athens airport transfer is a car booked in advance to meet you at Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) and drive you to your hotel, an apartment or Piraeus port. Private transfers cost €58 to €78 per car for one or two people by day, and €104 to €138 for a group of four to six. The drive into central Athens takes 35 to 60 minutes, and the driver tracks your flight, waits in the arrivals hall with your name and helps with the bags.

Before you book, compare it with the taxi. Athens taxis charge a fixed fare from the airport to the city centre: €50 by day and €65 from midnight to 05:00, in force since 18 September 2026 (it was €40 and €55). For one or two travellers arriving in daylight, the taxi rank is usually cheaper than any private transfer here and just as fast. The lowest-rated reviews of these transfers repeat the same point: guests who paid €70 or more and were collected in a yellow taxi felt they could have walked to the rank. Where a pre-booked transfer earns its price is for groups of three to seven, late-night arrivals, families who need a child seat, and cruise passengers heading straight to Piraeus.

Below we compare eight private transfers from seven operators, from a €58 pre-booked Mercedes taxi to a €180 limousine, with the price for one or two people, for a group and at night. Prices are live per-car totals in euros, checked on 14 October 2026. Once you are in town, our Athens hop-on hop-off bus guide and Athens private tour guide cover getting around the sights, and our tuk-tuk, Segway and bike tour guides cover livelier ways to do it. For everything else, start with our guide to the best things to do in Athens.

8 Athens Airport Transfers Compared

Athens airport transfers at a glance: a private car to central Athens costs €58 to €78 for one or two people by day, €104 to €138 for four to six, and €82 to €85 for two at night with the operators that publish a night rate. Premium cars run from €75 for a Mercedes E-Class to €180 for a limousine, and transfers to Piraeus port cost €82 to €100 for two. The fixed-fare taxi is €50 by day.

Should you book a private transfer?

Book one if you are three or more, landing after midnight, travelling with young children or a lot of luggage, going straight to Piraeus, or simply do not want to queue for a taxi after a long flight.

Take the taxi or metro if you are one or two people landing by day, with light bags, and staying in central Athens.

ℹ️ We checked each listing's live prices for every group size, night options, inclusions and review data on October 14, 2026. Prices are totals per car in euros; most operators list them per person, so a "€35" listing means €70 for two. The taxi fare is the official fixed fare from the airport to the central zone. Always confirm the price at checkout before booking.

What to Expect When You Land at Athens Airport

From passport control to your hotel door, usually 60 to 120 minutes in total.

  1. 01

    Passport control

Flights from outside the Schengen area queue at passport control; two arrivals in May and July 2026 waited about 90 minutes. Drivers on the transfers here waited it out, and several guests then saw a long Uber and taxi queue outside.

  2. 02

    Baggage claim and a message

Most drivers send a WhatsApp or text message as you land, with the exact meeting point. Switch your phone on before you reach the hall.

  3. 03

    Name sign in arrivals

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall past the customs exit, not at the baggage carousel. Twenty or more drivers hold signs at once, so walk the whole line before you worry.

  4. 04

    To the car

A short walk to the car park or a pickup point, sometimes a five to 15 minute wait while the driver fetches the car.

  5. 05

    The drive in

35 to 60 minutes to central Athens and 50 to 70 to Piraeus, with water and Wi-Fi on most cars. Many drivers point out sights and restaurants.

  6. 06

    Your hotel door

Drop-off at the door where the street allows. In the pedestrian lanes of Plaka the car may stop at the nearest corner.

Most transfers follow the same pattern. The part that catches people out is not the drive but the 15 minutes between baggage claim and the car.

Our take (the walk to the car): Several of the lowest-rated reviews come from guests who expected to step straight into a waiting car. What typically happens is that the driver meets you with a sign, then either walks you to the car park or leaves you at a pickup point while fetching the car, because cars can only wait briefly at the kerb. Expect five to 15 minutes; it is normal, not a no-show.

The Best Athens Airport Transfers

Grouped by who each transfer suits best, with the top pick highlighted. Prices are per car. We'd give the edge to a transfer over the taxi rank for groups of three or more and for anyone landing late at night; for a couple arriving in daylight with light bags, the €50 taxi is hard to beat.

Best overall

My Athens Transfers: Private Arrival Transfer

€70 for one or two people and €105 for three to seven by day, rising to €85 and €125 for landings between 23:00 and 06:00. Rated 4.9 from 1,368 reviews, 1,291 of them five stars. The driver tracks your flight, messages you as you land and waits with a name sign, and recent guests whose flights were delayed found the driver still there. The flat €105 for up to seven makes it the best value here for families and groups. The recurring complaints are that some cars are licensed yellow taxis and that the driver sometimes leaves you at a pickup point while fetching the car.

Cheapest private car for two

Transfer To Athens: Private Arrival Transfer

€67 for one or two by day, €83 at night (22:30 to 05:00), and €104 for four. Couples ride in a sedan, groups of three to seven in a minivan. Flight tracking is included with no charge for delays, and child seats are available if you ask in advance. Rated 4.9 from 61 reviews. We think the tradeoff is clear: you pay €17 over the day taxi fare to have the car waiting rather than queueing for one.

Clearest vehicle promise

VipTransferAthens: Private Transfer with Meet & Greet

€78 for one or two, €115 for four and €124.95 for seven. The listing names the cars: a Mercedes sedan for one or two, a Mercedes minivan for three to seven. Drivers use WhatsApp and wait with a sign. Rated 4.9 from 147 reviews, and reviewers often mention drivers pointing out sights and restaurants on the way in. There is no published night rate and a recent 03:00 pickup was cancelled on arrival, so we'd confirm late-night pickups in writing before you fly.

The widest choice of vehicles: a pre-booked yellow Mercedes taxi at €58 for one or two (€66 for three), a black Mercedes at €82, minivans for four to seven at €104 to €105, and a Sprinter minibus for bigger groups. Boosters and baby seats are free on request. Rated 4.8 from 874 reviews. Drivers wait 25 minutes at the meeting point before marking a no-show, so tell the operator about delays. Recent low reviews mention weak air conditioning and a missed flight change.

Best for three people

Athens pickup: Airport & Port Transfer to Hotels and Airbnb

€76.94 for one, two or three people, which makes it the cheapest private option for a party of three, and €138.48 for four to six. One listing covers airport, hotel and Piraeus routes, and the operator asks for your flight number on WhatsApp before you land. Rated 4.8 from 161 reviews. We'd keep the backup plan in mind: two guests in August and October 2026 reported no-shows and took a taxi instead.

Best premium car

Athens Taxi Club: Mercedes E-Class Transfer

€75 per car for up to three, day or night, in a new Mercedes E-Class. The operator says openly that it is a fully licensed taxi service and not the cheapest in town, which is more honest than most listings. All 49 reviews are five stars. It is listed as wheelchair accessible, with phone chargers, Wi-Fi and water on board. Above three people you need a second car or a different operator.

Athens Limo: Private Limo Transfer

€180 per vehicle for up to seven, to central Athens, Piraeus or the suburbs, at any hour. A Mercedes with an English-speaking driver, meet-and-greet, cold water, fuel and tolls included. All 67 reviews are five stars, many praising the drivers' tips for the city. For a group of six or seven it costs €30 each, close to two taxis, but for a couple it is €130 over the taxi fare.

Best for cruise passengers

My Athens Transfers: Airport to Piraeus Port

€82 for one or two and about €125 for three to seven, straight from arrivals to the cruise terminal or a Piraeus hotel in 50 to 70 minutes. Piraeus is outside the taxi fixed-fare zone, so a metered taxi can cost more and is harder to predict, which is where a fixed-price transfer is most useful. Rated 5.0 from 44 reviews; the one lukewarm review called it a standard cab ride at a premium.

Athens Airport to Athens City Centre: Transfer, Taxi, Metro or Bus

For one or two people arriving by day, the metro or the fixed-fare taxi beats a private transfer on price. For three or more, or after midnight, the transfer closes the gap or wins. Here is what each costs in total by group size, for a trip to central Athens.

The taxi fixed fare

Licensed yellow taxis wait at Exit 3 on the arrivals level. The flat fare to the central zone is €50 from 05:00 to midnight and €65 from midnight to 05:00, including VAT. The rise was set by Ministerial Decision 147620/2026, published in the Government Gazette (ΦΕΚ Β' 5674) on 18 September 2026 and in force from that day; older guides still quote €40 and €55. The flat rate only covers central Athens. Piraeus, Glyfada and other suburbs are metered, so the price depends on traffic. We'd make sure to agree the fare with the driver before you set off, and ask for a receipt.

Metro and bus

The airport metro ticket costs €9 one way or €16 return, half price for those eligible for reduced fares. The standard €1.20 ticket is not valid on the airport route. If you are staying three days, the €20 tourist ticket includes one round trip to the airport plus unlimited city transport for 72 hours. The airport express buses cost €5.50: the X95 runs to Syntagma and the X96 to Piraeus. The tradeoff is time and luggage. After a long-haul flight and a queue at passport control, a 40-minute metro ride plus a walk with suitcases is where most travellers start to see the point of a car.

Athens Airport to Piraeus Port

Piraeus is the one route where a pre-booked transfer is the safest choice for most people. It sits outside the taxi fixed-fare zone, so a metered taxi depends on traffic, and the drive takes 50 to 70 minutes. Transfers here cost €82 for one or two with My Athens Transfers, €100 for two with Athens pickup, and €180 for up to seven with Athens Limo, which charges the same to Piraeus as to the centre. On public transport, metro Line 3 runs from the airport to Piraeus station in about an hour on the €9 airport ticket, and the X96 bus costs €5.50 but takes about 90 minutes; both leave you to find your terminal. If you are joining a cruise or a ferry, our Athens day cruise guide covers the island cruises that leave from the same port.

Athens Airport to the City Centre and Piraeus (Interactive Map)

Athens International Airport sits about 34 km east of the centre by road, on the far side of Mount Hymettus, so every transfer starts with a stretch of motorway before dropping into the city. The map shows the two routes drivers take most: to Syntagma Square for hotels in central Athens, and to the Piraeus cruise terminals on the coast. The pins mark the neighbourhoods where most visitors stay, all inside the taxi fixed-fare zone, plus Glyfada on the Athens Riviera, which is metered.

From the airport toRoad distanceDrive, no trafficTaxiPrivate transfer (1–2, day)

Piraeus cruise terminalsAbout 52 kmAbout 50 minMetered€82 to €100

Distances and drive times come from the driving route on the map and assume an empty road, so allow 35 to 60 minutes to the centre and 50 to 70 to Piraeus at busy times, as the operators quote. The central neighbourhoods sit close together around the Acropolis, so the drive is much the same to any of them; the difference is at the door, because in the pedestrian lanes of Plaka and parts of Psyrri the car stops at the nearest street it can reach.

How Much Does an Athens Airport Transfer Cost?

A private transfer from Athens airport to the city centre costs €58 to €78 per car for one or two people by day, and €104 to €138 for four to six. Most people don't realize that the "from €35" on many listings is a per-person rate for two, and that on My Athens Transfers' listing the €105 car fare is the same for three people as for seven.

Public transport€5.50 to €9 each

The X95 bus at €5.50 or the metro at €9 per person. Cheapest for one or two, slow with luggage, and the bus is the only option running all night.

Fixed-fare taxi€50 day, €65 night

Per car for up to four, to the central zone only, from the rank at Exit 3. The best value for one to four people by day if you are happy to queue.

Private transfer€58 to €78 for 1–2

€58 for Theodores' pre-booked yellow taxi up to €78 for VipTransferAthens' Mercedes sedan, rising to €82 to €85 at night. For four to seven, €104 to €138 for one minivan.

Premium€75 to €180

Athens Taxi Club's new Mercedes E-Class at €75 for up to three, and Athens Limo at €180 per vehicle for up to seven, day or night.

Our rule of thumb: one or two people by day, take the taxi or the metro; three or more, a late-night landing, small children or a cruise ship to catch, book the transfer.

Our Take

Across these listings, many of the missed or late pickups trace back to the link between your flight and the driver rather than the driving: a rebooked connection, an early landing nobody passed on, or a WhatsApp message left unread. Keeping the operator updated matters as much as which operator you choose.

Tips for Booking an Athens Airport Transfer

  • Book the option that matches your landing time. Night rates start at 22:30 with Transfer To Athens and 23:00 with My Athens Transfers. The option is set by your scheduled arrival, not by when you clear passport control.
  • Update the operator if your flight changes. Flight tracking follows the flight number you gave. Guests whose rebooked flights were not passed on to the operator were not met, and at least one operator has refused changes after a delay.
  • Landing early? Message the driver. Drivers who know you have landed early can come sooner; otherwise you may wait in the hall until your scheduled time.
  • Book the route that matches your hotel's area. City-centre prices cover central Athens. One guest whose hotel was near Piraeus paid the driver €15 extra on the day, so choose the port or suburb option if that is where you are staying.
  • Keep your phone on and WhatsApp installed. Almost every driver here makes contact that way, and a missed message is the most common reason guests and drivers fail to find each other.
  • Check the luggage allowance. Most operators allow one suitcase and one carry-on per person. Tell them about extra bags, prams or golf clubs in advance; Theodores does not take bicycles or sports equipment. Groups of six or more with full luggage should confirm the vehicle the day before: the complaint that recurs most in group reviews is a car or taxi turning up where a van was booked.
  • Ask for a child seat when you book. Theodores supplies boosters and baby seats free, and most others offer infant seats on request. You cannot count on one at the taxi rank.
  • Do not split a big group into several bookings. My Athens Transfers will not honour multiple bookings for one group at the same time; book one minivan for up to seven instead.
  • Have a fallback for very late arrivals. Two of the no-shows in recent reviews were between midnight and 03:00. If yours fails, the taxi rank at Exit 3 runs all night at the €65 fixed fare.
  • Tips are not included. Most operators here list gratuities as extra and optional.
  • Visiting in December? Our Athens in December guide covers the Christmas closures, the free Sundays at the ancient sites and how hotel prices climb towards New Year's Eve.
  • Heading out sightseeing the same day? Some operators combine the transfer with a city tour; our Acropolis tour guide covers the timed tickets you will need either way.

How We Selected These Transfers

The Greece Trip Insider team reviewed every private transfer listing between Athens International Airport, central Athens and Piraeus with an established review record, and compared them with the official taxi fare and public transport prices. We checked all eight live listings on 14 October 2026, including their price for every group size, night options, vehicles, luggage rules and full star distributions, and read the recent and low-rated reviews of each. We excluded three listings without a guest review in the past six months. We also left out the most-reviewed arrival transfer in Athens, because 126 of its 1,570 reviews are one star and recent guests reported no-shows and a refusal to change bookings after flight delays. Taxi fares come from Ministerial Decision 147620/2026 (Government Gazette Β' 5674, 18 September 2026), and public transport prices from the Athens public transport operator's fare list. The top pick weighs review quality and volume, price across group sizes, night availability and how clearly the operator explains where you will meet the driver.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a transfer from Athens airport to the city centre?+

A private transfer costs €58 to €78 per car for one or two people by day, checked October 2026, and €104 to €138 for four to six. Night rates are €82 to €85 for two. The fixed-fare taxi is €50 by day and €65 from midnight to 05:00.

Is a private transfer better than a taxi from Athens airport?+

For one or two people by day, usually not: the €50 fixed-fare taxi is cheaper and just as fast. A private transfer is worth it for groups of three to seven, late-night landings, travellers who need a child seat, and trips to Piraeus, which is outside the taxi fixed-fare zone.

How much is a taxi from Athens airport to the city centre?+

€50 from 05:00 to midnight and €65 from midnight to 05:00, the fixed fares in force since 18 September 2026 (previously €40 and €55). The flat rate covers central Athens only; Piraeus and the suburbs are metered. Taxis wait at Exit 3 on the arrivals level.

How long does it take from Athens airport to the city centre?+

35 to 60 minutes by car or taxi, depending on traffic, and 50 to 70 minutes to Piraeus. The metro takes about 40 minutes to Syntagma, and the X95 bus 60 to 90 minutes.

How do I get from Athens airport to Piraeus port?+

A private transfer costs €82 for one or two with My Athens Transfers, or €180 for up to seven with Athens Limo, and takes 50 to 70 minutes. Taxis are metered on this route. Metro Line 3 reaches Piraeus in about an hour for €9, and the X96 bus takes about 90 minutes for €5.50.

Where do I meet my transfer driver at Athens airport?+

In the arrivals hall after baggage claim, where the driver holds a sign with your name. Most drivers message you on WhatsApp as you land with the exact spot. You may then walk to the car park or wait briefly at a pickup point while the driver fetches the car.

What happens if my flight to Athens is delayed?+

Most transfers here track your flight or ask for the flight number, and recent guests whose flights were late found their drivers waiting. Flight tracking only follows the flight you booked, so if you are rebooked onto a different flight, tell the operator straight away.

Is there a night surcharge on Athens airport transfers?+

Often. My Athens Transfers charges €85 instead of €70 for one or two landing between 23:00 and 06:00, and Transfer To Athens €83 instead of €67 from 22:30 to 05:00. Athens Taxi Club and Athens Limo charge the same day or night. The taxi fixed fare rises to €65 from midnight.
