Six Athens Segway tours from the city's two Segway operators compared on price, length, route and who can ride, from a €59 two-hour loop below the Acropolis to a three-hour ancient and modern tour and a night ride.
What You Should Know
- Athens Segway tours are guided small-group rides of two or three hours around the Acropolis hill, Plaka and the Ancient Agora, starting with a short riding lesson near Akropoli metro.
- Departures run daily from 09:00 to 16:00, with one evening tour at 18:00; mornings and the evening avoid the worst of the summer heat and the crowds around Plaka.
- Two-hour tours cost €59 to €69 and three-hour tours €85 to €95 per person; the night tour is €90, and non-English guiding costs €5 to €6 more with one operator.
- No tour goes inside the archaeological sites, and the extra hour matters more than the operator: three-hour tours add modern Athens, such as the Panathenaic Stadium and Syntagma.
Athens Segway Tour Guide: Routes, Prices and Who Can Ride
An Athens Segway tour is a guided ride on a self-balancing Segway through the ancient heart of the city: up to the viewpoints on the Pnyx and Mars Hill, past the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Acropolis Museum, through the Ancient Agora and the lanes of Plaka. Two operators run them, Athens City Segway Tours and Athens Segway Tours, both from offices a short walk from Akropoli metro. Tours last two or three hours, cost €59 to €95, and start with a riding lesson; you see the sites from outside, not on a ticketed visit.
Booking a Segway tour in Athens? Decide on the length before the operator. Both companies run a two-hour ancient Athens loop and a three-hour version that adds modern Athens, and recent guests who took the longer tour repeatedly say the third hour was the part they would not skip. If balancing on two wheels worries you, both operators have put nervous riders on seated four-wheel electric scooters instead, and Wheelz Fat Bike Tours runs a whole tour that way.
Below we compare six Segway tours from the two operators, with live per-person prices in euros checked on 14 October 2026, plus one seated e-scooter tour as a no-balancing alternative. For the same ground on pedals, see our Athens bike tour guide, or by electric tuk-tuk, our Athens tuk-tuk tour guide, and for a guided visit inside the Acropolis, our Acropolis tour guide. Athens Segway tours at a glance: two-hour tours cost €59 to €69 per person and three-hour tours €85 to €95, with the evening tour at €90. All run daily from offices near Akropoli metro, riders must usually be 12 or older and weigh 45 to 113 kg, and none go inside the archaeological sites. The seated e-scooter alternative costs €59.
Is a Segway tour right for you?
Book one if you want to cover the hills around the Acropolis in a morning, are on a short stay or a cruise day, and can stand for two to three hours.
Choose something else if you are under 12, outside the 45 to 113 kg weight range, pregnant, or nervous about riding among crowds; the seated e-scooter or a walking tour suits you better.
How we ranked them: we compared every Segway tour in Athens on review score and volume, how recently guests reviewed it, ground covered for the price, and how clearly the rider rules are stated. Tours with no review in six months are left out, and the seated e-scooter is listed last because it is not a Segway.

This follows Athens City Segway Tours' routes: the two-hour Ancient Athens loop, then the third hour of its Best of Athens tour. The two-hour tours head back to base after Plaka.
Our take (book it for day one): The pattern in recent reviews is that guests who rode on their first day used the tour as a map of what to come back to, and several then booked separate Acropolis and museum visits. Since no Segway tour goes inside the sites, we'd plan it that way: Segway first, ticketed visits after.
The Best Segway Tours in Athens
Grouped by what each tour does best, with the top pick highlighted. Prices are per person. We'd give the edge to a three-hour tour for anyone with a single day in Athens; the two-hour loops suit a cruise stop or a second visit when you only want the ancient centre.
Athens City Segway Tours: Best of Athens
€95 for three hours, rated 4.94 from 221 reviews, 213 of them five stars. The first two hours cover the ancient centre (Mars Hill, the Acropolis hill and the Ancient Agora) and the third adds modern Athens, including the Panathenaic Stadium, with time to catch the Changing of the Guard. Bottled water is included, and the office near Akropoli metro has a toilet and Wi-Fi. Guides adapt the route: one guest who had already seen the stadium from the street was taken to the hill above it. Two recent guests found three hours standing hard on the feet.
Check availabilityAthens City Segway Tours: Ancient Athens
€69 for two hours through the ancient centre: the Pnyx for the classic view of the Parthenon, Mars Hill, the Stoa of Attalos, the Roman Agora gate, Kerameikos and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Rated 4.95 from 102 reviews, with one review below four stars. Recent guests describe it as the easy way up and down the hills, with the cobbles the only rough patch. Guests describe the Best of Athens tour as this kind of loop with a third hour added, so choose this one if you only want the ancient city.
Check availabilityAthens Segway Tours: Classical Athens
€59 for two hours in English, €65 in French, German, Hebrew or Spanish, with five daily starts from 09:00. The route runs through Plaka and Thiseio to the Ancient Agora and the Temple of Hephaestus, in groups of up to 12. Rated 4.9 from 138 reviews and the busiest of the six in the past year. First-timers mention a lesson of up to 30 minutes before setting off. Riders must be 12 or older.
Check availabilityAthens Segway Tours: Ultimate Segway Tour
€85 for three hours, €10 less than the top pick, covering the Acropolis slopes, the Pnyx, the Ancient Agora, Syntagma Square, the National Garden and Monastiraki's flea market. Rated 4.9 from 71 reviews. The minimum age is 9, lower than most here, which makes it the best three-hour option for families with younger children. One group that booked a French-speaking guide found none available on the day, so confirm the language after booking.
Check availabilityAthens Segway Tours: Night Segway Tour
€90 for three hours from 18:00, riding through Plaka and Thiseio and up to the Acropolis as it is lit at dusk, then on to the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Guests say the floodlit monuments and quieter streets are the reason to go. It needs at least two people per booking and runs in English only. Rated 4.7 from 47 reviews, but with only four in the past year, much of its record is older. The other operator's night tour has had no reviews since 2025, so we have left it out.
Check availabilityAthens Segway Tours: National Gardens Segway Tour
€65 for two hours through the Zappeion and the shade of the National Garden, then past Hadrian's Arch, the Temple of Zeus and the Panathenaic Stadium. It is the flattest and shadiest route, and the minimum age is 9. Rated 4.7 from 95 reviews, but only two of those are from the past year and many date from before 2020, so we would treat it as a second choice.
Check availabilityWheelz Fat Bike Tours: Acropolis E-Scooter Tour
Not a Segway: two hours on a seated fat-tyre electric scooter, in a one-seat or two-seat version, for €59. Of 563 reviews, 562 are five stars. The loop stays around the Acropolis area, with a stop on Mars Hill. It suits anyone who cannot or would rather not balance standing up, and child tickets start at age 3. It covers less ground than a three-hour Segway tour.
Check availabilityWant to pedal instead? Our Athens bike tour guide compares regular and e-bike tours from the same streets, from €28.70.
Two Hours or Three?
This is the decision that matters most. Both operators sell a two-hour tour of the ancient centre and a three-hour tour that adds modern Athens, and recent guests who took the longer version repeatedly recommend the third hour; one summed it up as the same first two hours with more sites added.
| Two hours | Three hours | |
|---|---|---|
| Athens City Segway Tours | €69, Ancient Athens | €95, Best of Athens |
| Athens Segway Tours | €59, Classical Athens | €85, Ultimate |
| What you see | Pnyx, Mars Hill, Ancient Agora, Plaka, Thiseio | The same, plus modern Athens: the Panathenaic Stadium and Syntagma's guards, and the National Garden on the Ultimate tour |
| Best for | Cruise stops, hot days, a second visit | A first day in Athens with nothing else booked |
The extra hour costs €26 with either operator. We think it is worth it if this is your orientation to the city, because the modern half (the stadium and Syntagma) is the part that is far apart on foot. If you are planning a separate Acropolis visit the same day, or it is a summer afternoon, two hours is enough: two recent guests found three hours of standing hard on the feet.
Who Can Ride a Segway in Athens?
The rules are set by the operators and are stricter than on a bike tour. Riders must weigh roughly 45 to 113 kg, and pregnant travellers are advised not to ride. The minimum age is 12 on most tours and 9 on Athens Segway Tours' Ultimate and National Gardens tours, even though the booking forms accept younger ages. Athens City Segway Tours also asks that riders can climb stairs without help and leave large bags behind.
Never ridden a Segway?
Every tour starts with a lesson, and first-timers in their 60s and beyond describe picking it up within minutes. You need a decent sense of balance and the confidence to ride among pedestrians on cobbles and polished paths; one guest called controlling the Segway in big crowds a bit unnerving. If that sounds like too much, ask for a seated four-wheel scooter, and we'd look elsewhere altogether if crowds make you anxious: in summer the lanes around Plaka are at their busiest, and a walking tour lets you set your own pace. Recent guests on both operators' tours were switched to one on the day, including riders with bad knees.
Morning, Afternoon or Evening?
Athens summers are hot from late morning, and the routes are exposed on the hills. Guests consistently say the breeze on a Segway makes the heat easier than walking, but the time you choose still shapes the tour. Visiting in winter? Our Athens in January guide covers the short days and the rain.
The coolest slot and the best for the hills, though one family that started at 10:00 in summer still met heat and crowds at the Changing of the Guard. Athens Segway Tours runs from 09:00.
The hottest part of a summer day. On extreme-heat days, outdoor tours can be suspended in the afternoon; one July 2025 group was moved to a 17:00 start.
Athens Segway Tours' night tour rides into the evening, with the monuments floodlit and fewer people in Plaka.
How Much Does a Segway Tour in Athens Cost?
Segway tours in Athens cost €59 to €95 per person. Neither operator includes entry to the sites, food or hotel pickup, and the €26 gap between the two-hour and three-hour tours is the same with both companies. Most people don't realize that Athens Segway Tours charges €5 to €6 more for a guide in French, German, Hebrew or Spanish, so English-speaking groups get the lowest price.
Athens Segway Tours' Classical tour at €59 in English (€65 in other languages), its National Gardens tour at €65, and Athens City Segway Tours' Ancient Athens at €69.
Athens Segway Tours' Ultimate at €85 in English (€90 in other languages) and Athens City Segway Tours' Best of Athens at €95, which includes bottled water.
The night tour at €90 from 18:00, and Wheelz Fat Bike Tours' two-hour seated e-scooter tour at €59 for riders who would rather not balance.
We'd lean toward the three-hour tours: the extra €26 buys the half of the route that is hardest to cover on foot. If you only have two hours, the €59 Classical tour is the cheapest way up the hills.
Our Take
What we consistently see in reviews is that the guide's flexibility, more than the Segway, decides how the tour feels: the best-reviewed rides describe guides who changed the route to show guests what they had not yet seen, timed the stops for the Changing of the Guard and found a scooter for the nervous rider.
Tips for Booking a Segway Tour in Athens
- Check you meet the rider rules before you book. Most tours require riders to be 12 or older and 45 to 113 kg. Children under 12 can ride only on Athens Segway Tours' Ultimate and National Gardens tours, from age 9.
- Ask about a seated scooter if you are nervous. Both operators have swapped riders onto four-wheel electric scooters on the day. Ask when you book rather than at the start.
- Wear supportive shoes. Two recent guests found three hours of standing hard on their feet and suggested gel insoles. Leave large bags at your hotel; Athens City Segway Tours does not allow them on the Segways.
- Book the first slot in summer. The morning is cooler and the hills quieter, and on extreme-heat days afternoon tours can be called off.
- Confirm your guide's language. Non-English tours with Athens Segway Tours cost more and need a guide to be free; one group that booked French was given an English guide.
- Ask for food tips and photos. Recent guests on several tours came away with restaurant recommendations, one with help booking dinner, and guides regularly take photos and videos at the viewpoints, so hand over your phone.
- Ask if you need a different start time. Both operators have moved guests to an earlier or later slot on request, including same-day bookings, so it is worth a message if your plans change.
- Find the office before the day. Both are a few minutes from Akropoli metro, but older reviews mention guests who missed the start because they went to the station. Athens Segway Tours is at Eschinou 9.
- Do not expect to go inside. Every tour views the Acropolis and the Agoras from outside. Book your timed Acropolis ticket separately, and see our Acropolis tour guide for licensed-guide options.
- Visiting in May? Our Athens in May guide covers the 26°C days, the 18 May free day at state sites and when to go before the summer heat.
- Want it after dark? The Segway night tour is the only evening option here; our Athens night tour guide compares the walking and tuk-tuk alternatives, and our Athens pub crawl guide covers a later night out.
How We Selected These Tours
The Greece Trip Insider team looked at every Segway tour in Athens, which come from two operators, Athens City Segway Tours and Athens Segway Tours, and added one seated e-scooter tour as a no-balancing alternative. We checked all seven live listings on 14 October 2026, including their prices by option and language, schedules, rider rules and full star distributions, and read recent and low-rated reviews of each. We excluded three Athens City Segway Tours listings, including its night tour, because none has had a guest review since September 2025. We kept the National Gardens tour despite only two reviews in the past year, and say so where it appears. The top pick weighs review quality and volume, the ground covered, what is included and how clearly the operator explains the rider rules.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a Segway tour in Athens?+
€59 to €69 per person for two hours and €85 to €95 for three, checked October 2026. The evening tour costs €90. Athens Segway Tours charges €5 to €6 more for guides in languages other than English. Entry to the archaeological sites is not included.
How long is a Segway tour of Athens?+
Two or three hours, including a short riding lesson at the start. The two-hour tours cover the ancient centre around the Acropolis; the three-hour tours add modern Athens, including the Panathenaic Stadium and Syntagma, and the National Garden on the Ultimate tour.
What is the minimum age for a Segway tour in Athens?+
12 on most tours, as stated by the operators, and 9 on Athens Segway Tours' Ultimate and National Gardens tours. Riders also need to weigh between about 45 and 113 kg. For younger children, Wheelz Fat Bike Tours sells child tickets from age 3 on its seated e-scooter tour.
Is it hard to ride a Segway in Athens?+
Not for most people. Every tour starts with a lesson, and first-time riders in their 60s describe picking it up quickly. The challenge is the setting: cobbles, polished paths and crowds of pedestrians around Plaka. Nervous riders have been given seated four-wheel scooters instead.
Do Athens Segway tours go inside the Acropolis?+
No. Both operators say their tours do not enter the archaeological sites. You ride to viewpoints on the Pnyx and Mars Hill and past the Ancient Agora. Book a timed Acropolis ticket or a licensed guide separately.
Where do Athens Segway tours start?+
From the operators' offices, a few minutes' walk from Akropoli metro (red line). Athens Segway Tours is at Eschinou 9 in Plaka, and Athens City Segway Tours is about 100 m from the station near the Acropolis Museum. There is no hotel pickup, so find the office before the day rather than waiting at the station.
Is there a night Segway tour in Athens?+
Yes. Athens Segway Tours runs a three-hour night tour daily at 18:00 for €90, riding to the floodlit Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. It needs at least two people per booking and is guided in English.
Is a Segway tour in Athens worth it?+
For a first day in Athens or a cruise stop, yes: it covers the hills around the Acropolis in two or three hours with far less walking. It is less worthwhile if you want to go inside the sites, or if you are uneasy riding among crowds, where a walking tour or seated e-scooter suits better.
